Most of the links listed below will take you to free resources. There are so many wonderful free educational sites now available online, that I can't possibly list them all. Use the links below as a starting point, but don't be afraid to explore what the world wide web has to offer. Also, visit my lesson-plan website, Get It Together @ HWTK for links and other resources that may be especially useful each month, plus ideas for extra just-for-fun studies. Please note, some of the links listed below could fit into more than one category, but I've tried to list each one only once. So if you don't find what you are looking for in a specific subject area, be sure to check the general categories or use the search box.

It's summertime and hopefully, you're seeing some bees. We need 'em!
Honey Bee
This unit study is designed for grades K-3 and teaches science, language arts and art skills. The primary purpose of the study is to learn the body parts of the honey bee by constructing a paper honey bee model. The lesson is sponsored by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, University of Arizona. Additional unit studies on a wide variety of topics are available from the University of Arizona’s online publications library- just look for those that offer a PDF or HTML Version free of charge.

A free “Honey Files” Teacher’s Guide may be downloaded from this site and you may view a brief sample of the accompanying video available for purchase. The Teacher’s Guide provides several suggested activities and worksheets that can be used independent of the video. In addition, you can find recipes and other information about honey at this site sponsored by the National Honey Board.
The Great Sunflower Project
Sign up to receive free seeds and plant sunflowers in your garden. Then observe the bees that come to visit and report back to the project. What a fun summer science project! |
